DSIP Peptide

Compounded, not FDA-approved

The peptide named for delta sleep is the thing its own trials kept failing to find

DSIP stands for delta sleep-inducing peptide, a name assigned in 1977 for what the molecule did to rabbit EEGs. In people, the record reads differently: the only parallel-group placebo-controlled insomnia trial ever run, 16 patients in 1992, concluded it is not likely to be of major therapeutic benefit, and the most recent human study, in 2009, found it paradoxically reduced the delta rhythm it is named for. The peptide's own gene, precursor and receptor have never been found. In July 2026 FDA proposed keeping it out of compounding pharmacies, and trade press reports the advisory committee agreed, making it the only one of seven peptides reviewed that was voted down. Every study in our table is labeled by species, every claim carries its grade, and the absences are printed at the same weight as the findings.

  • 419papers indexed on this peptide, with a median publication year of 1992 and only 7 since 2016
  • 5randomized-tagged studies in that entire literature, enrolling 72 people between them
  • 16patients in the largest placebo-controlled insomnia trial, which concluded DSIP is not likely to be of major therapeutic benefit
  • 28rows in our evidence table, each labeled by species, including 5 documented absences of evidence
  • 42fetch-verified citations, 97.6 percent peer-reviewed or government sources; the single press citation is the attributed committee-vote report
